Iglesia de Guadalupe is one of Granada’s most historic and visually distinctive churches, located at the eastern end of Calle La Calzada near Lake Nicaragua.
Originally constructed in the 17th century, the church has played an important role in Granada’s history. During the 19th century, it served as a defensive stronghold during conflicts that affected the city, and its thick walls and strategic position helped protect Granada’s eastern approach.
Today, Iglesia de Guadalupe stands as both a religious landmark and a historic monument. Its colorful façade, traditional bell tower, and location at the edge of the colonial district make it a memorable stop while exploring the city.
The area around the church also provides a transition between Granada’s historic center and the lakeshore, making it a natural point to continue exploring toward Lake Nicaragua.
