Masaya Volcano National Park is one of Nicaragua’s most remarkable natural attractions and one of the most accessible active volcanoes in the world.

Located about 25–30 minutes from Granada, the park is part of a large volcanic complex formed thousands of years ago. The most famous crater, known as Santiago, is still active today and emits volcanic gases and occasional glowing lava visible deep inside the crater.

Visitors can drive up to a viewpoint near the crater rim and safely observe the volcanic activity from a designated lookout area. The experience is especially dramatic at night when the glowing lava becomes visible inside the crater.

The park also offers hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and a small visitor center that explains the geological history of the volcano and its importance in local culture.

Because of its accessibility and unique landscape, Masaya Volcano National Park is one of the most popular day trips from Granada.
